WHAT'S NEW ~ UPCOMING EVENTS**
"Get goin' to Greece" Celebration will be March 24, 2007 at the CLC-YMCA.

Hannaford's and Shaw's supermarkets have stopped issuing discount coupons for tobacco products. Congratulations to them!

Many locally owned Maine pharmacies including all of those operated by the Pharmacy Management group of Maine (including the Waltz Pharmacies in Damariscotta, Wiscasset and Waldoboro) have chosen not to carry any tobacco products in their stores. Congratulations to them!

The cities of Boston and New York have banned smoking in all bars and restaurants. The State of Delaware has done the same including all of its casinos.

Maine still allows smoking in bars, taverns, pool halls, etc. This means that those people working in these environments are exposed to a Class One carcinogen according to the US Environmental Protection Agency. This also means that those employers are at risk for lawsuits from employees for health problems they may incur as a result of that exposure.

Hopefully, the State of Maine will close those loopholes during this legislative session by passing a bill to prohibit smoking in all of these locations.

Attention Smokers–Want to Quit? Here are some options:

Call the Tobacco Quitline at 1-800-207-1230

The time commitment is only one hour per month– first meeting in September.
