....The Campaign for a Healthy Maine has selected 31 community/school partnerships to implement its program on the local level. Youth Promise of Lincoln County was the recipient of one of these grants. The TLC for Life Coalition was formed as a result.
....The mission of the campaign is to reduce the use of tobacco products and to encourage better nutrition and a more active lifestyle. Preventable disease kills eleven Mainers every day--seven die from tobacco related disease while four succumb to cardio-vascular disease caused by poor nutrition and/or lack of physical activity.
....The cost of health care in Maine is increasing yearly and will continue to do so until this unhealthy trend is reversed. The coalition will soon begin conducting a needs assessment and asset inventory of the communities it serves. Following completion of that phase, sub committees will be formed in each of the specific target areas (tobacco, nutrition, and physical activity) to determine the short term, intermediate and long terms goals for the coalition.
